It has been said that smell is the sense that evokes our most distant memories, and I wonder if that isn't why so many people stop at our craft show booth for a sniff of soap. See what memories pop up when you smell our soaps.
We make all of our soap in small batches from scratch using the cold-process method. All the bars are hand cut, then cured for a minimum of four weeks prior to sale. Each bar weighs over 4 ounces.
Our soap is a custom blend of olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil & palm kernel oil, and of that combination, 50% is olive oil. Our own Northwoods filtered well water plus sodium hydroxide makes lye, and lye mixed with fat makes soap! Our scented soaps contain either cosmetic grade, skin-safe, essential or fragrance oils formulated for use in soap and body products. We offer a variety of fragrances, including 4 different fragrance free soaps for those with ultra-sensitive skin. You will find that there is something for everyone.
We have added Spearmint-Rosemary Salve to our line, because we, like everyone else, occasionally need some extra moisture! As always, you can read the label and know what is in our product! We've attached our own photos to the soap descriptions, some relevant and some not.
Almond is the prevalent scent in our ALMOND OATMEAL Soap, with hints of milk, oatmeal & honey. It is one of our all-time customer favorites. (photo: Ballard Lake)
Our CEDAR AND FIR NEEDLE Soap has very nice properties. Cedarwood essential oil is believed to calm and sooth nerves. Fir Needle essential oil is a traditional pine scent. Combined, they remind our northern friends of the sauna, and has a smooth, fresh, evergreen aroma that is refreshing and harmonizing. (photo: Star Lake).
CHERRY ALMOND Soap has a very tart cherry scent paired with almonds. This soap was our top seller for the past two years. (photo: Illinois)
CITRUS SYNERGY Soap is a great soap for PEOPLE and DOGS too! We have added Vitamin E in the form of shea butter and avocado oil to our base oils for extra moisture, and combined Lemongrass, Litsea Cubeba, and Eucalyptus essential oils to deodorize and repel BUGS! Did I forget to mention, this soap's citrus fragrance is wonderful! (photo: Bob the dog)
CRANBERRY FIG Soap is a sweet and tart fragrance, reminiscent of Northwoods cranberries, where 46% of all U.S. cranberries are grown! (photo: Iris, our garden)
EUCALYPTUS-FIR NEEDLE Soap is great for the Sauna. Eucalyptus essential oil is often used for muscle and joint pain, and to clear the respiratory system. The Siberian Fir Needle essential oil gives off a pleasant forest aroma, smooth and fresh. We also put in a little lemon essential oil for a hint of citrus. (photo: Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah).
FISHERMAN'S SCRUB was intended to be a hand soap, great for removing fish-cleaning and other cooking odors, such as garlic & onions. However, some customers find it exfoliates nicely in the shower too. It is UNSCENTED, made with home-brewed coffee and coffee grounds, another great product for your skin. (photo: Ballard Lake)
Our FRAGRANCE FREE Soap is a mild, cleansing soap, made with the same recipe as our other soaps, minus any essential or fragrance oils, for people with ultra-sensitive skin, or who are not able to use scented soap. (photo: ice caves, Lake Superior)
FRESH LAUNDRY Soap - This is a fragrance that we have sold for many years and has a faithful following. For awhile this fragrance was unavailable so we are happy to have it in our line again. (photo: Italy)
GARDENER'S HELPER is a very gritty hand soap. We use corn meal for our exfoliant, which helps get super dirty hands clean. For 2017 we've made it with a pine forest scent. This is our only soap that we use exclusively for hands and feet. (photo: our garden)
HONEY & OATS Soap is made with locally harvested honey and colloidal (ground) oatmeal, an all-natural beauty bar. The oatmeal is an exfoliant, leaving skin feeling creamy. Note, this is an UNSCENTED soap. (photo: Madeline Island, Lake Superior)
HONEY OATS & CITRUS Soap was created when we added our Citrus Synergy essential oils to a batch of Honey & Oats soap, making it a great combo of Lemongrass, Litsea, and Eucalyptus essential oils in an exfoliating bar. Enjoy! (photo: Ballard Lake after a storm).
HONEY OATS & GRAPEFRUIT Soap is made exactly the same as our Honey and Oats Soap, but we've added Grapefruit Essential Oil. This soap is great for dry skin, with a nice, citrus fragrance as a bonus! (photo: Ballard Lake) Available early November 2021.
HONEY OATS & VANILLA Soap is made exactly the same as our Honey and Oats Soap, but we've added a rich Vanilla fragrance oil, which turns the soap dark brown. NOTE: Although this soap rinses dark, it does not stain the sink or tub. It can be a bit messy alongside the sink, so you may prefer to use it in the shower or bath. ISLAND COCONUT Soap has a nice, sweet coconut fragrance and will be a great addition to any soap dish! (photo: Merritt Island National Wildlife Reserve, Florida)
Our LAVENDER Soap is a classic fragrance, which has been popular for generations. It is made using the finest essential oils available. (photo: our craft show booth)
LEMONGRASS SAGE Soap is a citrus blend with hints of "green" notes, a clean fresh scent, with bits of dried lemongrass mixed in. Smells like spring! (photo: Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior)
Our LILAC Soap is so true to the lilacs of spring, you'll think the flowers are in the room with you. (photo: Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL)
NORTHWOODS Soap captures the brisk, fresh scent of the northern pine forests. A great reminder of those days hiking in the woods. (photo: Ballard Lake). Available around November 4, 2021.
ORANGE, CINNAMON and CLOVE Soap is one of my personal favorites, with cloves as the predominant scent. These essential oils evoke thoughts of mulled cider in fall, but are wonderful at any time of year. (photo: Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL)
We make our PATCHOULI Soap with Patchouli and Orange essential oils, resulting in the true scent of patchouli, and well-loved by its enthusiasts. (photo: Bayfield, WI).
PEPPERMINT, ROSEMARY, EUCALYPTUS & TEA TREE Soap is one of our most popular soaps. We use a complex blend of four essential oils, which are invigorating and healing, and especially great for your skin. (photo: Paris, France).
PUMPKIN SPICE Soap has a creamy, rich fragrance, with a hint of cinnamon, pumpkin, cardamom and nutmeg. This soap has a seasonal fall appeal, but is also wonderful year-round. (photo: St. Louis)
RASPBERRY VANILLA Soap gives off a sweet, ripe black raspberry fragrance, blended with peach, lemon, strawberry, and a bottom note of musky vanilla. (photo: Covent Gardens, London)
Our SPEARMINT-ROSEMARY SALVE is made of Avocado Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Beeswax, and essential oils of Spearmint and Rosemary, giving off a fresh, minty fragrance. Great for dry skin: cuticles, lips, elbows, heels, etc! 1.6 oz. (photo: Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior)
SANDALWOOD Soap is appealing to both men and women for its soft, warm, musky aroma. This fragrance has been used since ancient times. (photo: Sedona, Arizona).
Our SHAMPOO is an UNSCENTED moisturizing bar made of saponified oils of Olive, Coconut, Castor, Palm Kernel, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Avocado, Sweet Apricot, and Shea Butter. It, like all of our products, does not contain the petroleum, formaldehyde, and parabens that store-bought soaps & shampoos are made of. This is the only soap we take on trips for bathing and washing our hair. (photo: one of our little ones)
We make our TEA TREE Soap with Tea Tree essential oil and just a touch of Lemon essential oil, making a wonderful blend. Tea Tree has has long been used for its antiseptic properties, and has a very distinct scent. (photo: Grand Teton, National Park, Wyoming)
TITA'S BLEND Soap was inspired by our friend, Martita, who designed her own personal favorite scent. This musky, earthy, slightly sweet soap is a combination of Frankincense & Myrrh, Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Orange. We have a solid customer base of fans for Tita's Blend at the Star Lake Schoolhouse, so decided to add it back to our soap line. (photo: Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington)
